Homemade French Vanilla Grapenut Ice Cream

Over Mother's Day weekend (I know this post is late) I made a simple but delicious flavor - French Vanilla Grapenut Ice Cream - using my new favorite recipe that I first used when making my Homemade Cinnamon Snickerdoodle Chunk earlier this spring.

MMMMMMMM! It was good!

Enjoy!

Homemade "Mud Season" ice cream

This time I made an original flavor I call "Mud Season". I made mocha ice cream (chocolate and coffee), and added chunks of these Pepperidge Farms Brownie Cookies.

I also added a ripple of chocolate fudge and some crushed cookie crumbs to achieve the "dirt" effect! Wow! It was amazing!

Stay tuned for the recipe. I will post it in a couple days.

Enjoy!

Homemade Ice Cream - Cinnamon Snickerdoodle Chunk flavor

I made homemade Cinnamon Snickerdoodle Chunk ice cream this past weekend, combining the delicious Snickerdoodle cookies from Pepperidge Farms with a Cinnamon ice cream base.

Here is how I made it:

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
1 cup heavy cream
2 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 Pepperidge Farms Snickerdoodle cookies, broken into chunks

Stir the sugar and half-and-half together in a saucepan. Heat slowly over medium-low heat stirring frequently. When this mixture starts to simmer, remove from heat.

While the sugar and half-and-half are heating, combine the beaten eggs and heavy cream in a mixing bowl. Whisk them up well.

After removing the sugar and half-and-half from the heat, slowly add small amounts to the egg and cream mixture, stirring constantly. Add a little of the warm mix at a time so you do not scramble the egg mix. Take your time. Keep adding the warm mix to the egg and cream mix until you have added it all, stirring the whole time.

Put the combined mixture into the saucepan, add the two cinnamon sticks and heat again over medium-low heat, stirring constantly. Stir until it is thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon.

Remove from heat, and remove the cinnamon sticks.

Whisk in the vanilla and ground cinnamon, and refrigerate overnight.

Add to your ice cream maker following manufacturer's instructions. When the ice cream is nearly done, pour in the Snickerdoodle cookie chunks and there you have it: my recipe for homemade Cinnamon Snickerdoodle Chunk ice cream!

MMMMM! It was my best yet!

Enjoy!

"Box of Chocolates" ice cream [updated]

Recently, Turkey Hill Dairy blogged about a new ice cream flavor just out for Valentine's Day called Box of Chocolates. Box of Chocolates ice cream is "filled with dark chocolate raspberry cups, chocolate almonds and white chocolate chunks and swirled with chocolate chips. It’s practically your own box of chocolates in a container of ice cream!"

MMMM! Sounds good. I am thinking of doing my own variation of Box of Chocolates ice cream. I'll start by paying a visit to

the Chocolatier - the excellent chocolate shop in Exeter NH. I love their dark chocolate peanut butter cups. And like Turkey Hill - I will put it all in a chocolate ice cream base.

This one could be REALLY good!

[update]:

I paid a visit to the Chocolatier today - lot's of delicious choices. I got some peanut-butter filled chocolate hearts, some dark chocolate, some milk chocolate, and some chocolate cinnamon cappuccino beans. I will be making this on Saturday in a chocolate ice cream base. Yum!

Enjoy!
